We gained first-hand experience early in our careers that marketing was either a luxury or an afterthought for most small businesses. Once you decide to move past the do-it-yourself phase, you either work with students and freelancers who typically lack professionalism, or you swallow the bullet and attempt to work with an ad agency who would much rather chase big fish than give great service to the “little guy”.
